Sierra Child and Family Services (SCFS) protects the confidentiality and information of all clients. We strictly adhere to the Federal, Health, Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and State law, California Health and Safety Code 11845.5, that mandate all information pertaining to clients being served at SCFS is to remain confidential.

Information can only be shared if it is specifically authorized in writing by the client/guardian; is ordered by the court; or the information meets the criteria for the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Law, California Penal Code 11164-11174.3, Tarasoff Warning; California Civil Code 43.92 or Elder Abuse Reporting; California Penal Code 368b and California Welfare and Institutions Code 1510.27.

Finally, all clients/guardians are oriented to and given the Notice of Privacy Practices and sign Acknowledgement of its receipt.
